The Volunteer Center Events
This day marks the beginning of the year of service as millions of Americans honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by volunteering in their communities. HandsOn Network supports this day by creating meaningful projects in the spirit of Dr. King’s work and message. From building homes or delivering meals, to refurbishing schools or participating in town hall meetings or gatherings in coffee shops, we offer opportunities for everyone to continue to build upon the legacy of Dr. King and to create the “beloved community.”
Youth Alliance Awards Program
The Volunteer Center plans and sponsors the Youth Alliance Awards Program. It is held in early spring each year at Liberty Hall, Kimberly. All individuals and organizations throughout the Valley are encouraged to nominate any youth or youth group who has demonstrated a commitment to helping others and has succeeded in positively impacting the lives of others
The Fox Cities Youth Service Award is presented to one individual and one youth group in recognition of service to the Fox Cities community. The awards seek to recognize the spirit of volunteerism, as found in future leaders of our community, and to encourage young people and adults to take hold of that same spirit in their own lives.
Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. Project Heats On
Project Heat’s On is a long standing program. In 2006 when it looked as if the program might end, the Volunteer Center joined forces with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #400 to keep it going. Reaching our to senior homeowners, the Local #400 members volunteer to inspect heating systems, change furnace filters, inspect smoke alarms and put new batteries in for low-income seniors This volunteer effort is coordinated by the Volunteer Center and performed by the Local #400 members on the 1st Saturday in October. This program is another way that volunteer efforts help keep seniors independent and living in their own homes.
